Gold - 2020 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Windacre Vineyard is a single vineyard on the eastern edge of the Russian River Valley. It experiences cool morning fog giving way to hot days and dropping temperatures in the evening. Windacre is a great Merlot grape growing vineyard, very similar in temperatures and soil types to the Pomerol region of France where the most famous Merlots are made.
Replanting this two-acre block of Merlot took place in 2005, using two clones, 3 and 15.
This merlot has a beautiful purple garnet color. Deep dark fruit on the nose that translates to your palate. Blackberry, fig, Bing Cherry with hints of earthy spice. Very structured tannins balance out the fruit. There is nothing better than a long fruity finish and this wine has it. Enjoy now or lay it down for a few years. It won’t disappoint.
